Living a Life of Purpose

Hello Lovely! Thank you for joining me. I’m so glad to be with you today.

What is the purpose of life? Philosophers and theologians have been asking this for centuries. As a Christian, our purpose is given to us by God. Each one of us has a different purpose here on Earth.

“God sent us to earth to learn and grow through experiences, both pleasant and painful. He lets us choose between good and evil and lets us decide whether we will serve others or focus only about ourselves.”

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints (What is the Purpose of my life?)

Now, I’m not Mormon, but this quote rings true. Jesus dies for our sins, felling the pain and suffering throughout the world (past, present and future) and still He died for each and every one of us. He was resurrected 3 days later, just as it was said to happen. What a miraculous event!

Even if you are not a Christian, have some doubts or do not believe in Him at all, this post is for you.

I thought my purpose in life was achievement, success and acknowledgement. While I guess that it is still somewhat true, I have found that my purpose in like is to be a pastor at my church. For years, I have struggled with what God’s purpose for me was. Finally, I listened to Him. Becoming a pastor was not because of a fancy title or the acknowledgement that I once sought out, but instead it is to help others through their struggles. I often wondered why so many bad things happened to be in my life starting with being molested by a family member for 8 years of my childhood. Then I realized, it is to help others through the same trauma.

I finally listened to God. Here I am, turning the big 3-0 in June and I still have no career, although it is in the works. My purpose is not based on whether I am “successful” in life… just if I am successful in Jesus’ eyes by sharing the Gospel and reaching out to as many people I can to develop deep and meaningful relationships. I have always loved people, even since I was a kid, however mean I was back then with the internal rage within me, I just LOVED people. God used my past, my trauma, my pain, and He is giving me a purpose for using it to help others.

Think about your core, your center within you. What are you? Are you compassionate? What about? Are you giving?? Who do you give to? Do you love to serve others? How are you putting it to good use?? Do you value justice? What are you doing with it? Think about your core inner qualities.

. . . Did you think about it??

Good! Now, How can you combine your core values and your past hang-ups? What good can you do in the world with YOUR experience? Even though we have all gone through similar things, only YOU have experienced exactly what you have went through. Was it difficult? Heck yes, it was. Did it hurt? Absolutely. Now use that to your advantage and help others like you. Hey, maybe you grew up in a wonderful home environment with love, compassion, trust and respect. POWER to you. However, God created EACH and EVERY one of us. We are unique in his eyes, whether you see it or not.

“For you created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.”

Psalms 139: 13-14 (NIV)

God loves you for who you are, because He MADE you, fearfully and wonderfully (and indeed- uniquely).

Back to the purpose of life… How does all of this relate? Simple. Because He created YOU with others in mind. There is no one quite like you. If He made you, it was for a purpose. HIS purpose.

He created you to transform into a wonderful being. Just as He created you to transform the hearts of others. So, be BOLD. Go out there and make a difference.

Thank you for reading and God Bless you.

Love, Kelley
