Resilience

Hello Lovely! Thank you for joining me. I’m so glad to be with you today.

Let’s talk about resiliency, shall we?

Resilience is the ability to bounce back after struggles, obstacles and life’s challenges.

“Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.”

Nelson Mandela

Life is tough. It measures not only our stamina but our dedication, perseverance and courage. This is precisely what resiliency introduces into our lives.

Resilient Christians give God the glory after disappointments, in the storm, and after the storm.

The story of Job (pronounced Jobe) in the Bible was insane. Job was a devout and loyal servant to God and this made Satan jealous. Satan challenged God and God accepted his challenge. He can do whatever he wants in Job’s life, as long as he didn’t hurt Job himself. Simultaneously, Satan took Job’s animals- his herd that brings him money. Servants told Job that through fires and robbery, Job’s sheep, donkeys, mules, and oxen were taken. And his servants were killed. Then another servant told Job that a strong desert wind tore down his home where his family was having a party. What did Job do, you ask?? He knelt down in worship and reverence to God. When Satan saw this he was angry and sent a plague of painful boils unto Job.

“Job did not sin or blame God for all the bad things that happened to him.”

Job 2:10

After losing his livestock, his home, his family and being in physical agony. He did not lose faith in the Lord. THIS is the epitome of resilience.

How can we be more resilient? (In no particular order)

  1. Don’t sweat the small stuff. I know that does not sound profound and amazing, but it is true. There are so many things that happen in our lives. Are we going to let every little thing effect us? I hope not.
  2. In times of trouble- Pray. This is so vital. God knows the struggles you are facing, He knows every thought that you have, but He still wants to hear from you. YOU matter to him.
  3. Find Humor. So what if someone said something upsetting to you? Find humor in everything. You know what I find funny, when I am of course late for work and all the cars get through the green light but me… then I find it funny and laugh because I will be the first one on the next light change. It’s the little things.
  4. Have Gratitude. Give thanks to God for the good things that He has given you. Even if it’s small like a sucker at the bank I went to yesterday, or something big like a raise or promotion. A helpful tip: every time i make it through a green light on the road that I don’t think I will make; I give the Lord a high-five. 🙂
  5. Be Optimistic. People with confidence and optimism will have the belief in themselves that they will ultimately succeed.
  6. A willingness to confront and grow from challenges and fears. We all know that we will face challenges and obstacles that come about our way, but will we lean into them to better build our character is the real question.

I hope you have found this post helpful, and if not, maybe you learned the story of Job.

Thank you for reading and God Bless you.

Love, Kelley
