Hello Lovely! Thank you for joining me. I’m so glad to be with you today.
We will be talking about acceptance this morning. Acceptance is a difficult concept but is vitally important in our lives. With that, we will break down the serenity prayer together.
God grant me the serenity
Reinhold Niebuhr
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to His Will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next.
Amen.
Let’s begin with Serenity to accept the things I cannot change: Serenity is defined as the state of being calm, peaceful, and untroubled. We are to be calm, peaceful and untroubled when it comes to things that we cannot change, not to be stressed, anxiety ridden and upset.
Courage to change the things I can: The only thing or person YOU can change is you. Let me say that again for the people in the back. YOU CAN ONLY CHANGE YOURSELF. We spend so much time trying to control other people, our problems and our pain, and it just does not work. So, take a deep breath and accept that you can only change yourself. Next, once you realize that, have the courage to change yourself. Its tough and the journey is beyond rocky, but I promise you, it is well worth it.
Wisdom to know the difference: I pray that God gives you the wisdom to truly know the difference between what you can change (yourself) and what you cannot change (which is everything and everyone else).
Living one day at a time: Live for today. Not for yesterday, or for tomorrow. Focus on the day at hand.
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Matthew 6:34
Enjoying one moment at a time: Enjoy the little things! This is one of my personal mottos that I live by. It is amazing to be thankful and grateful for the good moments throughout the day.
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace: Everyday brings the possibility of struggles and issues, but we are to look at the better side of things.
“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.”
Romans 5:3-4
Taking, as He did, this sinful world, As it is, not as I would have it: Let’s face it; we live in a sinful world. No matter how much we try, that it something that cannot change. So, put on the Armor of God to fight the battles of the sinful nature of this world.
Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Ephesians 6: 13-17 (NLT)
Trusting that He will make all things right: Judge not, for the Lord will do the judging in His own time.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28 (NIV)
If I surrender to His Will; So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him Forever and ever in the next: God wants us to be happy, and the way to happiness is through do our best to be Holy in the likeness of Jesus. Speak life into others, be kind and gracious, give freely and help others. This is the way to happiness.
I truly believe this prayer is one of the most beneficial prayers ever stated. It will change your life if you focus on it and implement it into your life.
Thank you for reading and God Bless you.
Love, Kelley
