Patience

Hello Lovely! Thank you for joining me. I’m so glad to be with you today.

Let’s talk about patience, shall we? For anyone who has never heard of Proverbs before, they are little pieces of understanding and advice that help aid us in life. Think of it like a Chinese fortune cookie. Little tidbits of great information.

“Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.”

Proverbs 14:29

God is beyond patient with us. He watches our every mistake, redirects us multiples times throughout life (as well as throughout the day) and tries to keep us from straying into suffering. One thing is for sure. God is patient with each and every one of us. He understands where each of us are coming from and what drives our motives, yet still-He waits. Why? Because He wants us to understand that patience takes time. It often takes time to make the right decision and time for us to do the correct actions. We are to be patient with ourselves, just as much as we are to be patient with others. Patience brings understanding. I believe we all need to understand a little bit more.

“A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.”

Proverbs 15:18

Having patience invites us to slow down and think things through. Who are we to cause issues and start fights? God never created us for that. He created us to live together in love, peace and harmony.

“Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.”

Proverbs 16:32

It is better to take the time to ponder our actions and reactions than it is to just do something willy-nilly. No one wants that. Could you imagine the chaos and careless mistakes we would make if there were no such thing as patience? Whew. No, thank you. Patience takes time and planning. It is designed to help us get a better grasp on life. Why not use that to our advantage? Let’s all take the challenge to practice more patience.

Steps to be more patient:

  1. Try to think of the situation from another perspective. If it is a fight, think about it from the other person’s point of view. If it’s a misunderstanding, try to understand how the person received your information. These little things can go a long way.
  2. Take a pause. Whatever you’re doing, wherever you’re at, just step back and take a minute to pause and think things through.
  3. Be mindful and/or meditate. Be aware of the feelings that you are having. Get in touch with those feelings and allow them to really surface, don’t close them up and shove them aside.
  4. Pray for patience (and anything else you need). Yes, prayer is a powerful thing that can be used in your best interest. When you feel so low and have no idea where to go- pray for patience, wisdom and understanding. It will be given to you.
  5. Accept what you cannot change and have courage for the things you can change (yourself). On my previous post I discussed acceptance, it is the key to having patience. Knowing what you are able to change and not be able to change makes a big difference.

Thank you for reading and God Bless you.

Love, Kelley
