Complacency

Hello lovely! Thank you for joining me. I’m so glad to be with you today.

“Complacency is a blight that saps energy, dulls attitudes, and causes a drain on the brain. The first symptom is satisfaction with things as they are. The second is rejection of things as they might be. “Good enough” becomes today’s watchword and tomorrow’s standard. Complacency makes people fear the unknown, mistrust the untried, and abhor the new. Like water, complacent people follow the easiest course — downhill. They draw false strength from looking back.”

Complacency is a death-trap, causing us never to look forward and to only look back. To combat complacency we must be alive, aware and be made anew. God is the answer to being complacent. We must pray that he causes us to be self- aware and to bring forth all the issues and flaws that we have so that we can work on them.

For simpletons turn away from me—to death. Fools are destroyed by their own complacency.

Proverbs 1:32 (NLT)

Those who are wayward and who are complacent do nothing but destroy themselves. As new Christians, we seek out the Lord, we thank him for everything that He has given us and praise Him abundantly. However, once we have been Christians for a while, we become accustomed to life and slack in our Godly praise. Maybe we forget to thank God for something big or small, or maybe we forget to pray daily- whatever the case may be, we take advantage of God and we forget to be Christians in a busy world.

Complacency comes from success. If we feel we are being successful at work, at home or life in general- we become self-satisfied and therefore complacent. We must not forget where our success comes from. God is the reason for everything we have and we need to give thanks where thanks is due.

In my opinion, Gratitude is the opposite of complacency.

In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT)

That means through the good and the bad, we should give thanks to the Lord.

How to not fall into a complacent life:

  1. Get out of your comfort zone.
  2. Challenge yourself.
  3. Always learn something new or work on self-improvement.
  4. Take risks.
  5. Plan for the future, stop dwelling on the past.
  6. If you do not like something in your life, be brave and change it up.
  7. Begin every day as a brand new start.
  8. Focus on the process instead of the outcome. The journey is much better than the destination.
  9. Be open-minded and prepared for change.

Thank you for reading and God Bless you.

Love, Kelley
