Hello lovely! Thank you for joining me. I’m so glad to be with you today.
I would love to bring up the issue of pride. Even the most humble people have pride. But lets look at what God says about it.
“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”
Proverbs 11:2
Pride leads to a loss or respect and reputation. It does nothing for us but cause us problems. If that is the case, why do we keep holding Pride so close? The answer is sin. It is a constant struggle, yet here we are, sinning with pride.
Pride breeds arrogance. We believe we are right and believe falsely that everyone else is wrong about every matter that we disagree with. It makes us believe that we are more superior and God knows, we are not.
The opposite of pride is humility. Humility calls us to constantly fear the Lord. It keeps us in place and reminds us that we are all equal in God’s eyes. We are special to Him and the people around us, but in a store or on the road, we are nothing but another human being (hopefully who follows Christ).
Pride is a serious sin but also importantly, it harms our relationships as well as ourselves. Pride causes destruction. It destroys our life and our self-esteem. Nothing good comes from pride.
“Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’”
1 Peter 5:5b (ESV)
There are three types of pride: dignity, superiority and arrogance. Dignity is the thought of being worthy of honor or respect. Superiority is believing you are better than another. And, arrogance is the exaggerated sense of self in abilities or importance. All of these types pf pride are not conducing to being a kind person.
“The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.”
Proverbs 16:5
Have you noticed when you have pride in yourself and think that you are doing such a great job, but forget to give thanks to God- that you then start to stumble? That is what pride does. It elevates your sense of self and isolates you from your relationships.
I challenge you today, to think of how you might be prideful and think about what you can do to help remedy it.
Thank you for reading and God Bless you.
Love, Kelley
