Complacency

Hello lovely! Thank you for joining me. I’m so glad to be with you today.

Let us talk about complacency.

“Complacency is a blight that saps energy, dulls attitudes, and causes a drain on the brain. The first symptom is satisfaction with things as they are. The second is rejection of things as they might be. “Good enough” becomes today’s watchword and tomorrow’s standard. Complacency makes people fear the unknown, mistrust the untried, and abhor the new. Like water, complacent people follow the easiest course — downhill. They draw false strength from looking back.”

Complacency is a death-trap, causing us never to look forward and to only look back. To combat complacency we must be alive, aware and be made anew. We must be aware of our complacent behaviors and patterns.

“God never stops loving us, but when we become depressed, angry, or complacent, we stop seeing God’s love.”

The Cure for Complacency

We become complacent in our lives when things are running smoothly. We for some reason we think we do not need God at that time, but we do. This is our opportunity to thank Him for all that He has given to us. The Lord blessed us with everything good that we have, it is only polite to say, “‘Thank You.”

Take my writing for example. You have probably noticed that I have slowed down a lot when it comes to this blog. You are absolutely right. I write when the Holy Spirit motions me to do so. Otherwise, I just wind up with a bunch of words on a document. However, not feeling the Holy Spirit has made me complacent in the fact that I am comfortable with not writing. That is not what God intended for me. He placed this blog on my heart for a reason, whether it reaches a single person or many across the globe.

I have just been moving through the motions of the regular days and it has made me less aware of my surroundings. As well as unaware of God and who He is.

When I feel the Holy Spirit, I feel like I can do anything, and it is easier to do the good that God requires and to avoid things and actions that are bad for me. Therefore, writing a blog is easy. But without God, writing is hard. It’s hard to come up with new material, hard to find the words and what to say. My point being, when God is present in our lives, live runs smoother, but if we hold on to the smoothness and easiness too tight, then we lose sight of God and things become hard again.

Do what you need to do to get closer to the Lord. You already know what it is. Whether it be bible study, prayer time or just talking to Him like an old friend… Do what He requires of you to gain connection. He loves you with every fiber of His ‘being’, and He will never forsake you, even in the hard times, and especially in the easy times when you feel He is not present. I promise you, He is.

So, I challenge you today to do something that you know you need to do to feel closer to Him. Go ahead and do it, but do it TODAY.

Thank you for reading and God Bless you.

Love, Kelley
